Overview

“Locally-owned businesses matter: they create communities that are more resilient, prosperous, entrepreneurial, and connected.”  (Stacy Mitchell, Institute for Local Self Reliance). In this two-day conference, we will hear different perspectives on fostering a local economy, and hear about its importance on the social, environmental and economic fabrics of our neighborhoods, towns and regions.  Local, state and national thought-leaders will share their wisdom to inform and inspire us to think in new ways about how each of us can create a healthy and vibrant future for our communities and state. Formats include interviews, “Hawk Talks: (short, 8-10 minute presentations on a topic) and even an integrated song/storytelling session. Intended audiences:  municipal planners and leaders, economic and community development people, entrepreneurs, lawmakers and decision-makers, real estate professionals, landscape and building designers and developers,  and anyone with an interest in strengthening community through a local economy. Participants have the option of attending either or both days.
