This workshop offers municipal planning and zoning officials a dynamic mix of legal information, practical solutions, and policy discussions.
Upon its 50th anniversary, Act 250, a prominent and integral part of Vermont's regulatory landscape, is now being studied by a statewide commission to consider how well it was worked to meet its goals, and to consider changes that may be appropriate or needed to maintain relevance in the next 50 years.
Rather than simply bemoan our challenges or failures, we must always seek success stories. Planners from two communities will discuss their approaches to zoning bylaws, and methods of increasing public participation.
Planning is ever more expanding its umbrella to include health-related issues. Staff from two municipalities and the VT Dept. of Health will offer resources and stories about planning for healthy communities.
Solid waste and junk violations are common challenges. A State official will explain how their enforcement officers respond to and investigate these problems.
Finally, we always seek to stay up to date on recent cases and trends in the Vermont Environmental Court. This important and ever-popular session will discuss recent cases, focusing on key issues and practical lessons learned.
