The City of Burlington is seeking a Permit Technician to work in its new Permitting & Inspections Department.  This paraprofessional position is primarily responsible for assisting in the administration of the City’s land use and development regulations, and devotes a significant amount of time working closely with the public to provide customer service on permitting issues as to zoning, building, and trades. A broad and diverse range of responsibilities include accepting permit applications and reviewing for completeness, providing information, and assisting the public and applicants. This position is also expected to be able to perform routine administrative support functions for the department and volunteer review boards in the absence of clerical support staff as needed.

An Associate’s Degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, landscape architecture, civil engineering, public administration, natural resources, historic preservation, construction management, social sciences, or a closely related field; and a minimum of five (5) years’ direct experience in development plan preparation and/or review, or zoning and/or building code administration is required.
