Assistant Planner

The Commission is seeking an assistant planner to work with our GIS mapping program, and to assist with our water quality, flood hazard and emergency management programs. The assistant planner will be expected to assist planning staff to provide technical assistance to member towns including the preparation of maps, planning documents and grant applications. This position involves working closely with local, state and federal officials in a variety of capacities. The assistant planner will need to provide staff assistance to various boards and committees as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field. This is an entry level position. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Experience using Microsoft products is required. The ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is required and graphics software (e.g., Sketch Up, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) experience is preferred.
The salary is commensurate with ability. The Commission has an excellent benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurances, as well as retirement in the Vermont Municipal Employees Retirement System and a deferred compensation plan.
The Commission serves a 10-town area in southeast-central Vermont. Given the small size of the region, we work very closely with our member towns. Although the region is rural, we also have excellent recreational and cultural opportunities in and around the region.
