LD 1751 Update – MAP’S Growth Management Law Bill

This is the latest update on the status of LD 1751, sponsored by Rep. Tiffany Roberts at the request of MAP, and LD 1940, a competing bill sponsored by Rep. Melanie Sachs.

On May 27, the Housing and Economic Development Committee voted on LD 1751 and LD 1940. The vote:

LD 1751: Divided report, majority ONTP

LD 1940: 3-way divided report, majority OTP-AM

We are still waiting for the bills to reach the floor to be voted on by the full Legislature.

We need your help now! Please reach out to your representatives today to ask them to support the minority report on LD 1751, and to oppose LD 1940. The passage of LD 1940 would make planning more burdensome, less effective, and out of reach for most rural communities. Hearing from planners and municipal stakeholders will have the greatest impact on the outcome of this legislation.

Thank you for your continued support of this important effort to improve Maine’s growth management laws!
