Founded in 1987, the Vermont Planners Association (VPA), formed as a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization in 2002. In 2018, members voted to become a Section of American Planning Association section of the Northern New England Chapter. In 2019 we will be transitioning into a Section.  Our purpose is to provide a forum for professional and citizen planners and others interested in planning to share experiences and knowledge about planning issues facing Vermont. The organization provides professional development and educational opportunities for members and planning coordination for the community at large. VPA also represents the profession when local, state and federal governments and agencies are addressing planning issues.

Approximately 150 professional planners, landscape architects, engineers and planning consultants in the greater Vermont area are members of VPA. Members meet in the fall for an annual meeting. In addition, the VPA Executive Committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month and all members are welcome to attend.

Our Committment

VPA is committed to coordinating activities with other planning organizations including the Vermont Association of Planning and Development Agencies (VAPDA), the Vermont Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the State of Vermont including the VTrans Policy and Planning Division, and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.
