Legislative Update – LD 1976, An Act to Update the Growth Management Program Laws

Last year, the MAP LPC submitted testimony in opposition to LD 1976, the bill that revises the Growth Management Law. In the end, although LD 1976 passed in the House and Senate, the bill ultimately was not signed by the Governor. LD 1976 did not become law, but will be revisited this year.

In order to give this important planning issue the needed attention, MAP has formed a committee to focus on, and follow this bill. This committee held its first meeting in July and will continue through next spring’s legislative session. The committee will work with Build Maine, GrowSmart Maine and legislators as needed to help provide planning input and expertise on proposed legislative changes.
