AICP Certification

Value of Certification Planners
AICP certification enhances a planner's professional credibility and opens more career opportunities. The most recent APA/AICP Planners Salary Survey shows that certified planners earn more than non-certified planners, even when experience and responsibility are considered. AICP certification offers planners greater access to professional development and networking.

Value of Certification Employers
Certified planners verify their academic and professional achievements by passing a rigorous, comprehensive examination. They also pledge to uphold high standards of practice, ethics, and professional conduct. Through AICP’s Certification Maintenance Program, certified planners engage in ongoing professional development.

AICP Certification Eligibility Requirements
AICP applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a current member of the American Planning Association (APA);
- Be engaged in professional planning, either currently or in the past; and
- Have 2-8 years of professional planning experience (dependent on level of education) at the time of application submission.
