The Commission is seeking a planner to work with our GIS mapping, municipal project management, natural resource and flood hazard programs.  This position involves working collaboratively with other staff planners to provide technical assistance to member towns including the preparation of maps, planning documents and grant applications.  This position involves working closely with local, state and federal officials in a variety of capacities. The planner will need to provide staff assistance to various boards and committees as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in planning, natural resources, GIS or a related field, and two years of experience.  The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.  Experience using Microsoft products is required.  The ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is required and graphics software (e.g., Sketch Up, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) experience is preferred.  CFM certification is desirable.

The salary range is between $50,000 and $60,000, commensurate with ability.  The Commission has an excellent benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurances, as well as retirement in the Vermont Municipal Employees Retirement System and a deferred compensation plan.

The Commission serves a 10-town area in southeast-central Vermont.  Given the small size of the region, we work very closely with our member towns.  Although the region is rural, we also have excellent recreational and cultural opportunities in and around the region.
