The Land Use Review Board is seeking an organized and dependable person to fill a temporary Land Use Review Board Technician position in our Montpelier District Office. This position involves administrative and technical work in support of several District Environmental Commissions. Ideal candidates will have strong analytical, communication and collaboration skills.

 

The Land Use Review Board is an independent entity in state government that oversees the administration of Act 250, Vermont's land use and development law. Act 250 was enacted by the Vermont legislature in 1970 to protect the environment in balance with sustainable development. In 2024, Act 250 was amended by Act 181, which seated a new 5-member, full-time professional board to modernize Act 250 to a location-based jurisdiction system. The law establishes standards and priorities for environmental and aesthetic protections and is responsible for helping Vermont retain its rural character, preserve the natural environment, and support the state's environmental diversity - which foster distinctive, attractive communities and a strong sense of place. 

 

The Land Use Review Board Technician works as a part of the District Office team to ensure Act 250 permit applications are processed efficiently and accurately. This position is responsible for initial administrative review of applications and is a point of contact for assisting the public and parties with District Office inquiries. Additionally, this position maintains database records and performs document preparation, editing and distribution functions. This position is responsible for the clerical accuracy of District Office records.

The Land Use Review Board Technician also:

  • Completes administrative review of Act 250 applications.
  • Coordinates daily activities of a District Office.
  • Recommends, plans, installs, reviews and refines District Office management processes and practices.
  • Maintains and updates databases, tracking systems and file management sites.
  • Performs document preparation, editing and distribution.
  • Provides information to public and parties. Serves as a point of contact for District Office inquires.
  • Schedules and maintains project-tracking documentation and keeps track of the dates of meetings, pending cases, hearings and notices.
  • Assures clerical accuracy of office records.
