The Town of Eliot is seeking a full-time Town Planner to lead the Town’s development review and long-range planning efforts. The successful candidate will manage development review, land use ordinance updates, and special planning studies.
Basic Requirements:
- Works effectively with boards, committees, other Town staff, applicants, consultants and members of the public on development review and community projects.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure timely progress.
- Communicates clearly and professionally in writing and during public meetings.
- Demonstrates an understanding of public-sector work, including the importance of balancing competing priorities and listening to different perspectives.
- Contributes to both daily planning activities and longer-term policy ordinance updates.

In this role, you will:
- Serve as a staff advisor to the seven-member Planning Board.
- Review development applications/site plans and make recommendations to the Planning Board.
- Lead land use ordinance updates and initiatives to implement the Comprehensive Plan.
- Work on a mix of current development projects and longer-term planning initiatives.
- Advance sustainability priorities such as climate change resilience and bicycle-pedestrian projects.
- Be part of a small team where your input is valued and your work is visible.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in land use planning, public policy, geography, or other related fields.
- Experience related to planning, including but not limited to internships, taking part in producing published reports/studies; examples of grant writing or oversight or other associated experiences would be considered desirable by the Town of Eliot.
